KJ Administrator: The proposed formation of a new village has 'absolutely does not have any support of the Kiryas Joel leadership'
The following is a statement from Kiryas Joel Village Administrator Gedalye Szegedin, issued Wednesday, May 30:
On July 18, 2017, the Village of Kiryas Joel entered into an historic peace agreement the residents of Monroe via the United Monroe, which was designed to end years of conflict and litigation and create a path forward for the Monroe and Kiryas Joel communities to co-exist.
The agreement specifically called for neither the Village of Kiryas Joel nor the newly formed Town of Palm Tree to "not directly or indirectly, encourage, sponsor or in any way abet the formation any new Villages in the Town of Monroe during the Gap Period and for a period of ten years."
We have now learned from a Times Herald-Record newspaper story of the proposed formation of a new village in the Town of Monroe. This is in no way an initiative that was sanctioned by the Village of Kiryas Joel and it absolutely does not have any support of the Kiryas Joel leadership.
We strongly and steadfastly stand by all the terms of our agreement. At the same time we encourage all Monroe residents and homeowners to continue down the path of peace, symbolized by our agreement and by the establishment of the Town of Palm Tree.
