Melissa Alifano is the Monroe-Woodbury 'Athlete of the Week'

CENTRAL VALLEY — Monroe-Woodbury Athletic Director Lori Hock has announced that Melissa Alifano, the captain of the Girls Varsity Basketball team coached by Pat Harris, is the “Athlete of the Week” for the period ending Dec. 21.
Melissa is the lone senior on the team. A four-year varsity player, her athletic prowess is outshone only by her academic achievements. She was selected for the National Honor Society and is generous with her free time volunteering in the community.
A proven winner, she has been a part of two Section IX championships. She has committed to attend St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill to play basketball.
"Melissa can be counted on to work hard and provide leadership for the underclassmen," Harris said in the press release announcing the selection. "She is anxious to learn and able to adapt to fast change.
"Melissa is an asset to the community and more importantly," the coach added, "an excellent teammate."
