Sheriff’s Deputy Carolina Manon, a native of the Dominican Republic, will serve as keynote speaker at Orange County’s naturalization ceremony at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23, at the Orange County Emergency Services Center, 22 Wells Farm Road. Goshen.

County Clerk Annie Rabbitt will administer the Oath of Allegiance to the new citizens. Orange County Family Court Judge Victoria Campbell will preside over the ceremony.

The county will host a second Naturalization ceremony at 3 p.m. on Thursday at the Emergency Services Center. Supreme Court Judge Sandra Sciortino will preside over that ceremony.

“Deputy Manon has a wonderful story and we are looking forward to her sharing it at the naturalization ceremony,” Rabbitt said. “It will resonate with the new citizens and their friends and families. Each of these individuals has worked hard to make this day a reality. I’m looking forward to welcoming all of them as United States and Orange County citizens.”

Sheriff Carl E. DuBois added, “When Deputy Manon came to this country at the age of 15, she did not speak any English. She’s truly a success story in obtaining a legal path to citizenship and then giving back to a country that welcomed her by dedicating her life to service with the Sheriff’s Office.”

Manon was born and raised in Santiago, Dominican Republic, and moved to Queens in 1999. She later moved to Orange County in 2002 and was naturalized shortly after.

Manon has worked for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office since 2006, first as a corrections officer, then deputy sheriff, and most recently has accepted a promotion to investigator.

“She is a true inspiration,” said DuBois. “Her motivation will inspire those who will become citizens next week.”
