'Join United Monroe at the polls to elect Dwyer, Alley and Houle'

This year, Monroe Village residents have the opportunity to choose a new direction for the way their government is run. That’s because a majority of their Village Board seats – village mayor and two trustees – are up for election on March 20.
We, the United Monroe Executive Committee, believe that the time for change is now. We have spoken with many village residents who want more from their government. They tell us:
• Promises of downtown revitalization have not been kept. Store¬fronts remain vacant. Aesthetic improvements to the business district have been minimal.
• Persistent infrastructure and traffic issues have not been properly addressed.
• Village government must be more open, especially regarding the zoning and planning processes.
It is with these concerns in mind, and with the promise of a new vision for the Village of Monroe, that we heartily endorse the “Smart Growth Party” – Neil Dwyer for mayor, Carey Alley and Dorey Houle for trustees – in the 2018 Village election.
Together, the Smart Growth Team has put together a six-point plan that addresses the concerns that we heard from Village residents since United Monroe was formed in 2013. Throughout this paper, you will see detailed descriptions of how Neil, Carey, and Dorey will tackle long-standing issues such as downtown business growth, fiscally responsible government and public participation in the zoning and planning processes.
We believe they can get the job done. Neil, Carey and Dorey offer a balance of leadership, financial and governmental experience that can bring the village back to the charm that many long-time residents remember. Neil and Carey both own local businesses. They have both served as community leaders in scouting, the church and the local food pantry. Dorey, who was college professor and program director before moving to Monroe, is now a mother of five young children. Yet she devoted countless hours volunteering for the United Monroe and Preserve Hudson Valley causes.
In a word, their collective sense of community pride and commitment is unsurpassed.
Together, we did what many thought was impossible. We stopped an aggressive land grab by Kiryas Joel. We replaced a dishonest and self-serving Town Board with one that is now working in the best interests of all town residents. Together, we voted overwhelmingly in favor of going our separate ways from KJ to form a strong and independent Town of Monroe.
Now, we can vote together again for much-needed change, this time for our village.
