My name is Irene Conklin, I am a life-long resident of the village of Monroe. I am seeking the support of our Village residents in re-election to the Board of Trustees of the Village of Monroe.

My husband and I have raised our three children right next door to my childhood home and now my grandchildren are being raised here and will be attending school in the Monroe-Woodbury School District.

As deputy mayor and trustee for the Village I have been an integral part of a multitude of projects and implementation of many new local laws. During my tenure the Village has found ways to maintain our many miles of roads, passed the Peddling and Soliciting Law, and created a Do Not Solicit List. I have acknowledged our need for repairs to the Village’s water transmission line and have worked with the Board to develop a solution that will be fiscally appropriate for our community.

Debbie Behringer and I have worked hard with the Board to adopt two consecutive fiscally responsible budgets that were at or below the N.Y.S. tax cap, the lowest tax increases in 30 years. We have continued that work to present a third fiscally responsible budget for the upcoming year.

I have served under two mayors, each with a different vision and approach to servicing this community. Together we have brought many wonderful activities to the Village of Monroe. The Farmers Market is entering its sixth successful season, the Summer Concert Series continues to draw people to the beauty of Crane Park. The summer carnival marks the end of summer while the winter festival fills the air with the holiday spirit.

Throughout my years on the Board of Trustees I have gained the knowledge and experience to continue this good work for the residents of the Village. I will continue to preserve our quality of life by reviewing and amending our comprehensive plan and local laws, listening to our residents, responding to the needs of our Village, and working with our department heads to stay within our budget while upgrading our infrastructure.

I understand our need for a workable solution for traffic congestion, as well as the need for responsible growth while maintaining green space and will find valuable ways to preserve the balance.

I recognize our Village’s need for affordable senior housing and I am willing to work hard to bring that to fruition.

I also understand our need for more family activities and have ideas to keep our community outside and enjoying our village.

Let’s continue the momentum and elect Debbie Behringer and me, Irene Conklin, by voting Row C on Wednesday, March 18, at Village Hall.

    Irene Conklin
