Harriman Mayor Stephen Welle states his case for re-election

| 23 Feb 2012 | 03:39

My name is Stephen Welle and I am seeking re-election to the position of mayor in the Village of Harriman. The Village of Harriman is very important to me as a resident and mayor. I will continue to work diligently for the residents and property owners in the village. During my tenure, with board support, we have been able to secure over $200,000 in grant money for projects and vehicles. In November 2010 I filed for an Efficiency Implementation Grant in the amount of $425,250 for the formation of the Fire District. Any money awarded for this grant will benefit the Village of Harriman taxpayer. There are numerous serious issues facing the village over the next few years which will take dedicated, knowledgeable Village Board members to address. Following are just two examples: • New York State is cutting municipal aid while forcing increases of 40 percent in the retirement system payments from the village. This will require some difficult decisions to balance our budget and remain fair to our constituents. • Orange County is proposing consolidating sewer districts which if not done properly will have devastating effects on the residents of the Village of Harriman. We have, and will continue to attend the numerous meetings to ensure that Harriman is properly represented. I am running on the Village Choice Party along with Trustee Candidates Christine Sacher and Lawrence Mosca. Together we will continue to represent all residents and property owners in the Village of Harriman. Please come out and vote on Tuesday, March 15, from noon to 9 p.m. at the Harriman Village Hall, 1 Church St. Thank you. Stephen H. Welle, mayor Harriman
