Writing lessons

World traveler and author Peter Lourie recently joined the fourth graders at Pine Tree Elementary School and took them on an “virtual” journey down the Hudson River, from its highest pond source at Lake Tear of the Clouds to its mouth at Manhattan’s southern tip. Lourie described all of his trips worldwide, from the Hudson River to the Arctic, with its polar bears. He showed students his techniques for gathering details as well as his writing journals. Students, like fourth-graders Jocelyn Pierce and Andrew Choi. were invited to ask questions and encouraged to become writers with him.
