Woodbury Kids' Day draws 1,200 to the Earl Reservoir

Highland Mills - Under sunny skies last Saturday, approximately 1,200 Woodbury children and their families and guests enjoyed the Woodbury Parks Department’s annual Kids’ Day at Earl Reservoir. The young and young-at-heart enjoyed bouncy inflatables, face painting, arts and crafts, carnival games, sand castle demonstrations by Dominick Viel and balloon animals by Macaroni the Clown. Ice cream and snacks were provided for all. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office also provided free Safe Child cards with digital fingerprinting, high-resolution photography and pertinent identifying data to any parent or guardian who wanted one. The information on the cards is digitally stored in a state database until the child turns 18. The Woodbury Volunteer Ambulance Corps had a vehicle on display and allowed children inside to show them the equipment and to answer their questions. Likewise, the Woodbury Police Department had a cruiser, motorcycle and ATV available for the children with a police officer available to answer questions. The Central Valley and Highland Mills Fire Departments had four vehicles on display and allowed residents access to them, answering any questions that were asked. Usually, Kids’ Day concludes with a spray down by the fire department over the Reservoir but, unfortunately, five minutes before the big event, they were called to an emergency and were unable to spray the residents. The Parks Department and the Parks Commissioners would like to thank the parks staff for their hard work in making this a memorable day.
