Volunteers needed for 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition'

Washingtonville An army of construction volunteers has started building a new home for a local family and they have just one week to do it. To make that dream a reality, hundreds of local volunteers are needed to join the effort to "Build That House!" Construction began yesterday. One week later, on Thursday, Aug. 25, a local family will hear host Ty Pennington shout those famous words: “Move That Bus!” Between now and then, hundreds of volunteers 18 and over are still needed for all shifts and positions, from skilled construction worker to laborer. Help is also needed with traffic directing, catering, administration, and more. Each volunteer will be issued an "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" blue shirt and may even appear on camera. Construction is ongoing 24 hours per day from start to finish. Northern Windows, siding and Roofing at 2537 Route 17M in Goshen is among the businesses volunteering its expert service. To join this community effort, visit www.hearthstonecontracting.com. Hearthstone Contracting has provided construction services in the Hudson Valley since 2001. The Emmy-award winning reality program “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” is now entering its 9th season. The show airs Sundays from 8 to 9 p.m. on ABC. Hundreds of community members joined a "Build That House" pep rally at SUNY Orange last week to support the Orange County build project. More than 150 people signed up at the rally to volunteer, joining 700 others already committed. They also donated more than 1,500 pounds of food for the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, according Ron VanWarmer, associate director of the food bank.
