Tuxedo School District board member resigns, replacement sought

District also recruiting for Steering Committee members TUXEDO - As the Tuxedo School District community awaits the naming of an interim superintendent this month, the district is now also concurrently looking for a replacement for one of its board members. Tuxedo resident Brixton Doyle resigned at the Board of Education’s Nov. 4 meeting, though no reason was given. His term of office began July 1, 2009, and would have continued through June 30, 2012. His vacancy now allows the Tuxedo board to appoint an individual to fill Doyle’s position until the annual school board and budget election in May 2011. The district is currently accepting letters of intent from interested people. Those looking to fill the vacancy should submit their letter, along with a resume, and mail to District Clerk Nancy Bourke, Tuxedo UFSD Administrative Offices Box 2002, Tuxedo, N.Y., 10987. Tuxedo board member applicants must be: a U.S. citizen, at least age 18; able to read and write; and a Tuxedo School District resident for at least one year prior to appointment. No more than one member of a family may serve on the board at the same time and applicants may not be school district employees. Applications are due by Wednesday, Dec. 15. Additionally, the district is seeking a Tuxedo community representative for its Steering Committee. The committee will assist the Tuxedo Board of Education in evaluating existing programs and other options that are beneficial to both school districts, according to the district. Steering Committee membership includes one Board of Education member, one school district administrator, one business official and one community member - each from the Tuxedo and Greenwood Lake school districts - for a total of eight committee members.
