CENTRAL VALLEY — On Tuesday, Feb. 13, the Monroe-Woodbury High School Boys Varsity Basketball team held a ceremony before its game against the Valley Central Vikings to honor the seniors on this year's squad.
The Crusaders entered the game having to win two of their last three games to qualify for the OCIAA playoffs.
So the team took the court with their season on the line and jumped out to a 13-5 first quarter lead with senior Brandon Adams scoring eight points.
The Crusaders increased their lead to 18 by the half with senior Jayson Ongondo providing the spark with a thunderous one-handed dunk.
In the third quarter the Crusaders held the Vikings at bay with senior Rob Vacco knocking down a long range three-point shot.
Finally, in the fourth quarter, the Crusaders stretched their lead out to 22 points with senior Jack Berry bringing the crowd to its feet with a couple of beautiful drives to the basket.
The 55-33 victory over the Vikings brings the Crusaders' record to 9-9 on the season and needing at least one more victory to qualify for the playoffs.
The Crusaders were to play at Newburgh Free Academy on Thursday and then will wrap up their regular season regular season when they travel to Burke Catholic on Saturday. That game will tip off at 12:30 p.m.
