Monroe Senior softball results

MONROE — Poppy’s powered their way to a 26-9 win over Gilligan’s to claim the A Division title.
Poppy’s finished the season with a record of 15-5. This was Poppy’s first championship and manager John Murray’s third championship in five years.
The third and deciding game was close through the first four inning and then Poppy’s began the onslaught. Poppy’s scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth from home runs from Jeff Becker and John Murray and 13 more in the bottom of the sixth.
The team smashed 25 hits, including seven home runs. Poppy’s key hitters were Victor Quinton (2-3, grand slam home run, 4 RBIs); Ronnie Crover (3-4, double, 2 RBIs), Jeff Becker (2 home runs, 3 RBIs), John Murray (2-4, home run, 4 RBIs), John Daly (4-4, home run, double and 4 RBIs), John Hughes (2-3, home run, 3 RBIs), Jim Sayre (2-3, double, RBI) and Pat Carey (3-3, home run, 3 RBIs)
Pitching for his 14th win of the season was Nicky Sansalone.

Game one
Poppy’s defeated Gilligan’s in game one of the A finals by the score of 15-5. The team delivered 12 hits over six innings and the pitching was led by Nicky Sansalone.
Leading the team offensively were Joe Brady, Jimmy Sayre, Ronnie Crover, Chuck Todd and Marcos Munoz who were each 2-3.

Master Chimney 18
After a dramatic finish to game two in the semi-finals between Birchwood Caterers and Master Chimney that tied the series, game three was decided in similar fashion.
In a see-saw battle that saw the lead change five times in the game, Birchwood Caterers battled back to win game three and the series with a 23-18 win.
Down two runs in the top of the seventh, Jim Scully ignited an eight-run outburst that gave the Birchwood a lead they rode to victory. Marty Diamond had a big night with four hits and a two-run double in the sixth to tie the game at the time.
The story of the game was the lower part of the line-up that produced many hits and the majority of the runs. Manny Aguella, Bob Andreala, Mike Gregory and Neil Winter all had three hits in a clutch performance.

Hudson Valley Homes 26
Game on of the C division finals saw a slugfest (with game time temp in the high 30’s) between the Comedians from Jesters and the Realtors from Hudson Valley Homes.
It was a back and forth contest with Hudson Valley tying the game in the bottom of the seventh only to see the Comedians explode for seven more runs in the eighth to close out the game.
Jesters was led by Will Fredricks (3-4, two home runs, 5 RBIs, four runs scored and HBP), Eddie Quinn (3-4, 4 RBIs) and Carlos Lopez (2-4, grand slam home run).
