M-W varsity football team begins preseason practice

CENTRAL VALLEY — The Monroe-Woodbury Crusaders gathered at the high school this on Monday, Aug. 13, to start their three-week preseason leading up to their season opening game against Aquinas Institute of Rochester at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse on Saturday, Sept. 1
Ryan Baldock enters into his third season as head coach of the Crusaders with a 15-4 record.
The Crusaders' season ended last year in the Section 9 semifinal with a loss to archrival Newburgh Free Academy.
The Crusaders lost 24 players to graduation from last year's team and will have their work cut out for themselves during their preseason.
But at the practices in the heat on Monday and Tuesday, their off-season conditioning, spirt and attention to detail seemed to paying off as they moved their drills with the crispness of a well oiled machine.
The Crusaders will be put to the test this season with a very tough schedule facing Section 3 powerhouse Aquinas Institute to start the season. The team will also face perennial single A power Cornwall as well as league powers Pine Bush and Newburgh.
The team looks to improve on last season's mark and, with a strong core of seniors, should contend for the Section 9 crown this year.
