CENTRAL VALLEY — The Monroe-Woodbury Athletic Director George St. Lawrence has announced that Emily Thatcher, a member of the girls varsity golf team coached by Bill Earl, and Nick Marotta, a member of the boys varsity golf team coached by Pat Bulla, have been selected as the high school’s “Athletes of the Week” for the week ending April 27.

Emily Thatcher Emily, a sophomore, has quickly emerged as one of the top golfers on this year’s team. In her first four matches of the season, she leads the team in scoring average under par.

She has a passion for the game of golf and sets individual goals prior to each match.

Emily also is a dedicated student and scholar athlete. Her charismatic personality and concern for others accompany her competitiveness and desire to excel both on the golf course and in the classroom.

She is an extremely determined and self-motivated individual whose utmost goal is to qualify for this year’s Section IX Girls Golf Tournament in May.

Nick Marotta Nick, a senior, has been an integral part of the Crusaders Boys Varsity Golf squad for the past five years and he has led the Crusaders to many team victories and Division championships. Nick is a top contender for the 2012 OCIAA Championship and Section 9 championship and is looking to qualify again this year for the Section 9 New York State team.

Nick continues to improve his game and is considered one of the finest youth golfers in the county. Nick’s strength at golf is the accumulation of hard work, enthusiasm, his desire to succeed and the opportunity to play often at Mansion Ridge, Monroe Country Club and the Falkirk Golf Club, the Crusaders’ home course.
