Registration now underway for publicity and writing courses at SUNY Orange
MIDDLETOWN Registration is underway for two evening classes to be taught by a Straus News writer at SUNY Orange beginning in September. “Publicity Techniques: How to Publicize Your Programs and Events the Right Way in the Local Media” and “Want to Become a Freelance Newspaper Writer?” will be taught by Nancy Kriz, who writes for The Photo News and its sister papers, The Warwick Advertiser and The Chronicle. The eight-session publicity class will offer information on how to deal effectively with the media to maximize successful awareness outcomes. Topics include news release preparation, media kits and other writing techniques used in the publicity world. Fee is $65 and begins Wednesday, Sept. 7. The six=session newspaper writing class will focus on the basics of news writing and interviewing and applying those skills to writing news and feature stories as well as how to best with editors and find story ideas. Fee is $125 and begins Tuesday, Sept. 20. Kriz has 28 years experience in the non-profit public relations and journalism fields, including teaching publicity/writing classes at Iona College for a 10 year period.
