As the year is winding down, I wanted to take the time to thank the members of the media for their hard work. Throughout the year, you have covered the important issues affecting our community. You have done so with open, inquisitive minds and have held yourselves to the highest standards of professionalism. I value the essential role the media plays for legislative representatives. It allows us to communicate effectively with our constituents, informing them about relevant policy issues and concerns. In fact, the media is the major conduit through which most people learn about their government. In this regard, I could not ask for a better partner. The press is of particular importance during the election season, shaping not only the public’s perception of a candidate, but also the tone of a campaign. Throughout this year’s election season, the press has been an arena for open discussion of the key issues involving our state. Your efforts to provide balanced coverage did not go unnoticed. The press is crucial to ensuring the transparency and preservation of our democratic system.
