Mail bomb would have flown over NY, NJ, Pa.

PHILADELPHIA — The Associated Press reported Wednesday that a mail bomb that was intercepted in England apparently could have exploded over upstate New York, eastern Pennsylvania or southern New Jersey. British police said that the device foiled at the East Midlands Airport was timed to be detonated about seven hours after the UPS flight carrying it left Britain for the U.S. That means it could have gone off after it reached the U.S. Officials at Flightaware, which tracks air traffic data, say that on the day of the attempted bombing the flight entered the U.S. through upstate New York. They say it continued south through Pennsylvania and looped briefly into southern New Jersey while on approach into Philadelphia. Officials have said the package was to end up in Chicago.
