GOSHEN — Monroe-Woodbury High School student Ryan Sadera received the “Spirit of Success” Youth Award at the 2013 County Executive Youth Awards Luncheon on June 6.

Now in its 31st year, the Orange County Youth Bureau recognizes young people who make Orange County a better place by inspiring others through leadership and volunteer work.

Ryan was nominated for the award by Monroe-Woodbury High School guidance counselor Kathleen Pelcin as a result of his success as a role model to others at his school, particularly in his leadership role with students dealing with diabetes.

He has also been involved with the school’s S.T.A.R.S (Students Teaching Aids Reduction Strategies) and Relay for Life programs and is captain of the Monroe-Woodbury lacrosse team.

Ryan will be attending The College of Saint Rose in Albany this fall where he plans to major in biochemistry.
