STONY POINT — The Rockland County Democratic Committee has unanimously endorsed Woodbury Councilman James Skoufis in the race for the new 99th Assembly District currently held by Nancy Calhoun.

“Stony Point and the rest of the district need a representative in the Assembly who understands the needs of middle class families and will fight for the two most pressing issues in this economy: property tax reform and jobs,” said Skoufis.

“On the Woodbury Town Board, I have worked alongside Democrats, Republicans, and Independents for a better community and will continue to bring my people-first, common-sense approach to Albany,” added Skoufis. “I am very thankful for the support of the Stony Point and Rockland County Democratic Committees and look forward to working with them and being a strong voice for their communities.”

Calhoun, a Republican, will be retiring at year’s end. Several Republicans are vying for the seat as well.

The new 99th Assembly District includes the Towns of Blooming Grove, Chester, Cornwall, Goshen, Hamptonburgh, Highlands, New Windsor, Wawayanda and Woodbury in Orange County and Stony Point in Rockland County.
