Orange County residents urged to shop local on Small Business Saturday

GOSHEN — Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus and President and CEO of the Orange County Chamber of Commerce Lynn Allen Cione encourage residents and visitors to take part in Small Business Saturday in Orange County on Nov. 25.
“Small Business Saturday provides residents with another opportunity to support Orange County’s diverse small businesses,” Neuhaus said. “These business owners work hard and are a vital part of our economy. I certainly appreciate all that they contribute to Orange County and encourage residents to support our local businesses throughout the year.”
According to Cione, there are approximately 9,000 small businesses in Orange County.
Cione added that for every $100 spent locally, $73 stays in the economy.
“Small business is the backbone of Orange County’s growing and vibrant economy,” Cione said. “When you shop local, you are supporting your friends and neighbors. Orange County is one of the best places to live because of its business community and we appreciate that County Executive Neuhaus continues to support them.”
Small Business Saturday is a national event held annually the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It is dedicated to supporting the local businesses that help give our neighborhoods character.
Launched in 2010 and placed on Facebook at facebook.com/shopsmall, SBS received 1.2 million "likes" in its first month. The U. S. Senate officially recognized Small Business Saturday in 2011.
