MONROE — This Saturday, April 22, is Earth Day and has been designated as "Operation Clean Sweep Day" in the Town of Monroe.
Monroe Clean Sweep will be conducted from 8 a.m. to noon.
Plans for the day involve cleaning up litter in several areas; the focal point will be the portion of Route 17M from the intersection of Routes 17 and 17M and some ancillary roads in the Village of Harriman to Airplane Park in the Village of Monroe.
The Monroe Woodbury Little League and the Greater Monroe Chamber of Commerce, along with the Town of Monroe and the Villages of Monroe and Harriman, are taking the lead in this annual event in collaboration with local businesses, church, civic and volunteer groups.
We would appreciate your support to instill local pride by sprucing up the local area.
"The day's effort is important both practically and symbolically," Monroe Village Mayor James C. Purcell said in a press release detailing the program. "As we clean up a major thoroughfare, we hopefully set a pattern that others will follow and that will carry over into the months ahead.
