No outdoor watering allowed in the Village of Woodbury

HIGHLAND MILLS — Water restrictions in the Village of Woodbury are still in effect, as of this past Wednesday afternoon.
Currently, no outdoor watering is permitted due to the village’s water tanks being “dangerously low,” according to Village Clerk Desiree Potvin.
The Photo News incorrectly reported in its July 13 edition that evening hours were allowed for watering even though the village had amended its water restrictions stating absolutely no outdoor watering was allowed.
The village has issued “five or six tickets” in the amount of $500 each to violators, Potvin said, adding: “We really do try to issue warnings first.”
Village Water Superintendent William McClennan said lawn watering was depleting the reserves in the tanks.
“What’s happened, we’ve got the capability of pumping 1.2 million gallons a day but with the lawn watering, we can’t keep up with it,” he said. “We’ve got over two million gallons of storage, but with the lawn watering, the tanks just draw down to empty.”
But it’s not the driest he’s ever seen.
“It’s definitely people watering lawns,” McClennan said, reminding people that “your lawn will go dormant, and it will come back. The past week, we’ve had a few rain showers and they’re right back at being green again.”
The $500 fines are still in effect.
