The Town of Monroe participated in the New York State DEC’s Trees for Tribs Grant Program once again this year, with previous participation in 2019.
Town Supervisor Cardone said in his monthly newsletter that the town’s maintenance team planted approximately 60 plants and shrubs, which targeted the north-side of Mombasha Pond on West Mombasha Road (near the curve by School Road). This area was selected by the NYS DEC staff several months ago due to the strong erosion of land along Mombasha Pond.
Additionally, any plants/trees/bushes that did not survive the original planting in 2019 were removed and a new plant was put in its place.
The New York State DEC’s Trees for Tribs Grant Program works with local communities that qualify for streamside planting projects.
“The Town of Monroe remains committed to being eco-conscious,” Cardone said, “and will continue to seek opportunities that assist us in making a positive impact on our environment.”
