Members of the Monroe-Woodbury Girl Scout Service Unit brightened up the downtown area of Village of Monroe with a special “Bringing Light to a Veteran’s Holiday” tree contest.

Organized by Girl Scout Leader Karen Ruotolo, a group of troops decorated the pine trees surrounding the village’s gazebo by the ponds, following social distancing guidelines.

The trees were adorned with handmade and store-bought ornaments by girls representing Daisy, Brownie, Junior and Cadette level troops.

The Village of Monroe provided hot cocoa to all and Village Mayor Neil Dwyer chose the winning tree, designed and decorated by Troop 81.

Additionally, girls collected hundreds of toiletry items and new ornaments to give to homebound Orange County veterans.
