Monroe Historical Society to unveil historical marker to honor Rest Haven

    Rest Haven, the vacation home on for blind women which was established in 1923 on High Street, will be the site of the 12th historical marker erected in Monroe since the 1980s.

MONROE — The Monroe Historical Society invites the public to the unveiling of a historical marker to honor Rest Haven, the vacation home for blind women which was established in 1923 by Monroe resident Moses Migel, who was the first president of the American Foundation for the Blind.
The ceremony will take place on Saturday, Dec. 16, at 10 a.m. at Rest Haven, 236 High St. in the Village of Monroe.
"Rest Haven was purchased by the HRR Corporation, which it is restoring and preserving this 1902 mansion," Monroe Town Historian James Nelson said. "It is a showcase for our community."
This marker is a grant from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation of Syracuse. It will be the fourth marker erected in Monroe, with a grant from the foundation.
This will be the 12th historical marker to be erected in Monroe since the 1980s.
