MONROE — Once again, Monroe Free Library has been designated a community partner of the U.S. Marine Toys for Tots program. The library will be accepting donations of new, unwrapped gifts from now until the week of Dec. 18.
Last year's drive was so successful that the Marine coordinators had to return early to empty the bin. Library staff expects this year to be no different. "Our patrons always deliver," said Carol Bezkorowajny, Head of the Circulation Department, "they fill that bin in a flash."
This year marks the 70th year of operation for the Toys for Tots program. Last year, the total value of collected toys was roughly 216 million dollars. The toys are distributed to less fortunate children in the community where they were collected.
