M-W student among four recipients of St. Lukes Cornwall Hospital scholarships

NEWBURGH Four local, college-bound high school students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to community service and volunteerism have been awarded scholarships through the St. Lukes Cornwall Health System Foundation.
These four students are inspirational, Sue Sullivan, vice president of advancement and government affairs, said during the awards ceremony on June 20. Not only have they excelled academically, volunteerism has been a big part of their high school careers, said Sullivan. We are happy to reward their hard work, and look forward to seeing their future achievements.
Nelson Polanco of Newburgh received the Michael L. Pappis, MD scholarship for $1,500. Polanco is a volunteer in Pharmacy and Emergency Management in SLCHs Newburgh campus. He will be studying to be a pharmacist at Albany College of Pharmacy.
Sean OBrien of Washingtonville received the $1,000 St. Lukes Cornwall Health System Foundation Auxiliary Scholarship. OBrien will be attending Iona College studying to become a physical therapist.
Farah Aziz of Newburgh also received the $1,000 St. Lukes Cornwall Health System Foundation Auxiliary Scholarship. Aziz is a volunteer in patient care areas at SLCH Newburgh campus. Farah will be studying to become a physician at Vassar College.
The Albert M. Berkelhamer scholarship in the amount of $1,000 was awarded to Monroe Woodbury student Adrian Rudiak. Rudiak, who volunteered at the Cornwall campus, will study dentistry at the Poznan University of Medical Science in Poland.
