MONROE — Friends and family of Kevin Jacobsen Sr. are holding a fund raiser to assist the immediate family on Sunday, Feb. 26, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Mombasha Firehouse on Route 17M.

Jacobsen, a Monroe resident and a retired New York City police officer from 90th Precinct in Brooklyn, died unexpectedly on Jan. 7.

His wife Wanda and children Kevin Jr. and Kiersten survive him.

Organizers are asking for a $20 donation per person. The event will include food and a 50/50 raffle in addition to other items being raffled off.

Guests are also asked to bring a food dish to share.

All proceeds will go directly to the Jacobsen family.

Last year, Jacobsen and his family lost their son Kameron to suicide. In his memory, the family established the “Kindness Above Malice” (KAM) Foundation, dedicated to acknowledging compassion in others and “to affirm those individual students that have raised the self esteem of another person thereby preventing the injury that results from bullying.”

A flyer promoting the fundraiser said: In times like these, we tend to focus on the feeling that there are no words we can say and little we can do to bring comfort and peace. However, that is not necessarily true. A simple act of kindness is a powerful thing.”
