CORNWALL — Edgwick Farm, a family-owned and -operated farm in Cornwall that makes farmstead goat milk cheese, will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 348 Angola Road in Cornwall on March 21, beginning at 11 a.m.

The ceremony will celebrate the opening of its recently constructed micro dairy and creamery. New York State Agriculture Commissioner Darrel J. Aubertine and other dignitaries are expected to join in the dedication of the farmstead cheese-making facility – the first of its kind in Orange County.

Edgwick Farm collaborated with the town, county, and state officials to develop its site plan, which was approved unanimously by the Cornwall Town Planning Board in December 2010 with a statement of strong support for local agriculture. Ground-breaking for the microdairy and creamery proceeded shortly thereafter, and Edgwick Farm was licensed by the New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets to produce farmstead goat’s milk cheese on Nov. 22, 2011.

In early February, Edgwick Farm learned it received a $120,000 grant for business development through the U.. Department of Agriculture’s Value-Added Producer Grant program. The program aims to create jobs and opportunities for agricultural producers, businesses, and families nationwide and applicants must meet strict requirements to be eligible for funding.

Edgwick Farm is owned by Talitha Thurau and Dan Jones.

“This grant, along with the steady and growing demand of our satisfied customers, signals that what Edgwick Farm can provide is not only needed and wanted right now in the community but is also good for Cornwall and Orange County,” Thurau said in a press release announcing the ceremony.
