    Awards, programs, honorsAustin Pesce of Monroe, a student at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Mass., was named to the NEWMAC Football All-Conference Teams and to the 27th annual Steve “Merc” Morris All-Star Team.
    Pesce, a graduate of John S. Burke High School in Goshen, led the NEWMAC with 30 punt returns, 337 yards and average (11.2) among all student-athletes with double digit punts, as well as a long of 45. He had a career day at Catholic with 104 yards on four attempts, including a 45-yarder, for an average of 26.0 per return.
    The Worcester Polytechnic Institute Engineers finished the season 9-2 with a seven-game winning-streak and a New England Bowl trophy. The nine wins tie the 1992 team that went to the NCAA tournament and the bowl triumph is the first postseason win in the 128 years of WPI Football.
    Paige Drews of Monroe is among the 212 students recently named Susquehanna University Scholars.
    The annual Scholars Program, held on Nov. 3, recognized Susquehanna’s most successful student scholars. To be named a University Scholar, students must have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 in full-time study for the past two semesters or equivalent credit hours of part-time study.
    Drews is a creative writing major in the Class of 2020. A 2016 graduate of Monroe Woodbury High School, she is the daughter of Richard and Lauren Drews.
    SUNY New Paltz men’s baseball player Anthony-James Amoroso of Monroe joined the rest of the team in organizing and hosting the “Be the Match” Marrow Registry Drive on campus.
    The baseball team teamed up with the Icla da Silva Foundation to help recruit bone marrow donors.
    The non-profit foundation was created to provide support services to children and adults with Leukemia and other diseases treated by marrow transplants.
    Between Nov. 14-15 the baseball team registered more than 100 students, faculty and staff as bone marrow donors.
    Matthew Moment of Monroe was a member of the SUNY New Paltz Miami Theatre Player’s production of “Pippin!”
    Performances of “Pippin!” were given Nov. 30, Dec. 1 and Dec. 2 in the McKenna Theatre.
    “Pippin!” is a Broadway musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. The musical centers itself on a mysterious performance troupe, led by a Leading Player, to tell the story of Pippin, a young prince on his search for the meaning of life.
