BLOOMING GROVE — Assemblywoman Nancy Calhoun (R,C,I-Blooming Grove) recently met with Kira Floersheim, one of the 2012 New York State Boys and Girls Clubs' Youth of the Year candidates.

“I am proud to have had the opportunity to meet such a driven and dedicated young adult who shows great promise,” said Calhoun. “Her ambition is admirable as she consistently receives A’s in all of her classes, striving to be successful in every area of her education, as well as selflessly volunteering her time to assist the children in our community.”

Kira is the child of a military service member and has experienced constant new routines, environments and unique challenges, Calhoun said. As a member of the West Point MST Center, she volunteers her time to implement new clubs and activities for children. Kira will enter 9th grade at James I. O’Neill High School this September and also plans to pursue her post-high school education as a cadet at the United States Military Academy at West Point.
