The area’s annual “Operation Clean Sweep Day” will take place Saturday, April 27 from 8 a.m. to noon.
The Greater Monroe Chamber of Commerce, the Town of Monroe and the villages of Monroe and Harriman are taking the lead in this annual event, in collaboration with local businesses, church, civic and volunteer groups.
Plans for the day involve cleaning up litter in several areas, particularly along the portion of Route 17M from the intersection of Routes 17 and 17M and some ancillary roads in the Village of Harriman to Airplane Park in the Village of Monroe.
In addition, free shredding services will also be offered and the Town of Monroe will be offering free electronics disposal during the same time frame.
Officials said the day has a practical and symbolic purpose.
They hope the cleaning up of the area will encourage others to continue the effort in the forthcoming months.
The cleanup is held during the weekend which marks Earth Day.
