Woodbury seeks volunteers park and library boards Highland Mills The Woodbury Town Board is soliciting letters of interest from individuals interested in volunteering to serve on the Parks and Recreation Commission or Library Board. Sacred Heart Parish hosts teen workshop this Sunday Monroe High school teens are invited to an afternoon workshop dealing with the topic of teens and self-esteem beginning at 1:20 p.m. this Sunday, Nov. 13, in the Sacred Heart Church School Gym in Monroe. The programs will feature videos, presentations, small group discussions, activities, lunch and prayer will take place throughout the afternoon. Residents turn in 25 pounds of unwanted medicines Monroe The four-hour prescription drug disposal effort conducted by Village of Monroe Police on Oct. 29 resulted in nearly 25 pounds of unwanted or unused prescription medications. Det. James Frankild said most of those drugs were narcotics such as Oxycontin. Vicodin and other pain relievers that can be highly addictive. The pharmaceuticals will be burned at a site used by police agencies. Village Police announced the disposal effort at the conclusion of a year-long investigation that resulted in the arrest of 20 people on charges of possessing these narcotics and other drugs or selling them to undercover cops. The majority of those arrested were in their teens and twenties. “We are now going to host similar events several times throughout the year,” Frankild said. “In addition, if there is someone who needs to dispose of prescription medication immediately, for any reason, they can call the Monroe Police Department and schedule an appointment and we will take the medication off their hands right away.” The telephone number for Monroe Police is: 782-8644. Indian Point Sirens to be tested Nov. 15 GOSHEN - A full-volume test of the Indian Point Energy Center siren system will be conducted between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, throughout the 10-mile Emergency Planning Zone around Indian Point, including the sirens in the Orange County communities of Tuxedo, Woodbury and Highlands. Sirens will sound simultaneously for four minutes. The sirens will sound at full-volume for the entire duration of the test. Plans are to include information designed to appeal to everyone interested in the history of Monroe, including a calendar of events, photos and articles.
