Cops from Tuxedo Park and Montgomery among four charged in shoplifting ring

    Goshen - Two police officers - one from the Village of Tuxedo Park PD and the other from the Town of Montgomery - are among four men charged in connection with the theft of hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise Walmart stores in Orange County. Authorities said the suspects sold the stolen items on eBay, using PayPal accounts to collect the money. In addition to larceny charges, some of the suspects may face income tax penalties for not declaring the income from their endeavors. The investigation was conducted by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and members of the Walmart Investigations Team. On Nov. 4, members of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, the state police and officers from the New Windsor, Newburgh and Montgomery town police departments executed seven search warrants at multiple locations and recovered large quantities of stolen goods, authorities reported in a press release. Those same authorities said that a large amount of the stolen property had been sold on eBay, which they added provided “full and complete cooperation … in conducting this investigation. They also said they had the full cooperation of the Village of Tuxedo Park and Town of Montgomery police departments. In addition to the theft charges, investigators said they will bring to the Grand Jury charges that one or more of the defendants failed to declare the money received from the sale of the stolen property as income. Christopher Borek, a former Orange County assistant district attorney who now works for the New York State Department of Taxation, has been cross- designated to prosecute the case together with Orange County assistant prosecutors. Those charged are: Bryan Dunn, 36, of Maybrook, has been charged with one count of fourth-degree grand larceny, three counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing and three counts of filing a false tax return. Kevin Burchell, 26, of Montgomery, has been charged with two counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing and two counts of filing a false income tax return. He has been fired from his probationary job with the Village of Tuxedo Park Police, according to reports published in the Times Herald-Record. Clifford M. Barber III, 41, of Walden, has been charged with one count of third-degree grand larceny, three counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing and three counts of filing a false income tax return. He has been suspended as a part-time Town of Montgomery police officer, according to reports published in the Record. Laquionus Pressley, 27, of Newburgh, was charged with one count of third-degree grand larceny.
