AARP Tax-Aide seeks volunteers for tax season
Goshen AARP Tax-Aide, the volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service, is seeking volunteers across Orange County to help New York taxpayers who are seeking assistance preparing and filing their 2011 tax returns. Volunteers do not need to be an AARP member or retiree to participate. Tax-Aide is particularly in need of volunteers for sites in Chester, Cornwall, Highland Falls, Middletown, Monroe, Town of Wallkill, New Windsor, Newburgh, Port Jervis, Warwick and Washingtonville. AARP Tax-Aide volunteers receive free training and are reimbursed on a limited basis for qualified program-related expenses. They help taxpayers at sites around the county, learning new skills while giving back to countless communities. AARP Tax-Aide is a program of the AARP Foundation, offered in conjunction with the IRS. “In 31 years, we’ve assisted thousands of people in preparing and filing their tax returns,” District Coordinator Sheri Conklin said in the press release announcing that volunteers are needed. “We could not do it without our volunteers, who make an indelible mark on the communities they help.” Last year, more than 50 AARP Tax-Aide volunteers helped more than 2,000 taxpayers across the county. They join the more than 34,000 AARP Tax-Aide volunteers across the country, helping millions of taxpayers each year.
