Irene C. ‘Dolly’ Thornton

    Irene C. Thornton entered into rest at her home in Cornwall-on-Hudson on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, surrounded by her loving family.

    Irene lived in the home built with her husband in Highland Mills for 35 years and worked in the Woodbury community for more than 50 years.

    She owned a store on Route 32 in Highland Mills and later worked with her lifelong friend, Emily McKay, at Emily McKay Real Estate for almost 30 years.

    Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Frank Thornton Sr., as well as her children: Frank Jr., Catherine, Joseph, Virginia and Thomas. She was a loving grandmother to Trisha, Kelly, Shelley, Nicole, Katelyn and Christopher and to one great-granddaughter - Cadence.

    Irene is also survived by her sister Judith McMullin, who is facing her own courageous battle with cancer.

    She was predeceased by her father Joseph Richter Sr., her mother Catherine Scapecchi and brother Joseph “Ricky” Richter Jr.

    She brightened the world with her strength, sense of humor and caring demeanor. She lived life with a sense of selflessness and kindness that touched everyone she met. She will truly be missed and always loved.

    There will be no visitation. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, at St. Patrick’s Church, 26 Hunter St., Highland Mills. Interment will follow in Cemetery of The Highlands in Highland Mills.
