Warwick -On Saturday evening, Nov. 20, Winslow Therapeutic Center will host its annual Denim and Diamonds Gala fund raiser at the elegant Falkirk Estate and Country Club located at 206 Smith Clove Road in Central Valley. Formerly known as the Inn at Central Valley, the renovated Falkirk Estate and Country Club, under the new ownership and management of Wayne and Carla Corts, has received wide acclaim for its cuisine and service as well as picturesque setting. Proceeds from the event will be used to help support Winslow, a not for profit Hippotherapy and Therapeutic Riding Center accredited by the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association and devoted to the special needs population of Orange and surrounding counties. One of the highlights of the evening will be the presentation of awards to this years honorees, Wayne and Carla Corts of Central Valley, who are not only the owners of the Falkirk Estate and Country Club but who have remained generous and longtime supporters of Winslow and its programs. The couple is well known in this community for their generous contributions to numerous worthy causes. Wayne Corts is also a real estate developer and the owner of The Greens at Woodbury and also Stony Point Bay Marina, which he has operated successfully for more than 30 years. He recently spearheaded a successful last ditch effort by a group of local businessmen to raise $6 million dollars and save the New York Military Academy in Cornwall-on-Hudson from closing. Facing reduced enrollment and financial difficulties, the Academy, an historic 110-year institution, would have held its final graduation ceremony last June. Under new board leadership, the school’s enrollment has dramatically increased and its future is bright. Corts serves on Winslow’s Board of Directors and his wife, Carla, has previously served on the Denim and Diamonds Gala Committee. “We are happy that we have an opportunity to honor Wayne and Carla this year,” said Leo Kaytes, president of Winslow’s Board of Directors. “We are grateful for their service, their leadership and their generosity all these many years. And we thank them for helping Winslow to continue providing its programs for those with special needs.” This year’s Denim and Diamonds Gala, which will also serve to celebrate Winslow’s 36th anniversary, will feature a cash bar and full course dinner, served with complimentary wine or beer. And there will be dancing to the music of 18 time Grammy winner Jimmy Sturr and his Orchestra. Tickets are $125 and all proceeds will directly benefit the riders at Winslow Therapeutic Center.
