Archbishop of American Antiochian Orthodox Christian churches to visit Warwick

FLORIDA - On Sunday, May 1, Metropolitan Philip Saliba, Archbishop for all of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Churches in the United States and Canada, will make his first Archpastoral visit to St. Ignatius Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church in the Village of Florida. His Eminence Metropolitan Philip, as he is addressed, will preside over the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, which will be concelebrated by several priests and deacons. The Divine Liturgy will begin at 10 a.m. Approximately 250 people are expected to attend the service, including a combined choir from several of the Antiochian Orthodox churches in the New York/New Jersey area. In conjunction with his visit, Metropolitan Philip, whose official title is Archbishop of New York and Metropolitan of North America, will elevate the pastor of St. Ignatius Orthodox Church, Rev. Fr. George Kevorkian, to the rank of Archpriest. The rank is an honor granted to a priest in recognition of service to the church over a sustained period of time. The title also honors the accomplishments that have been achieved by the community that he serves. “I am honored and humbled by this elevation to the rank of Archpriest,” said Father Kevorkian. “It should be seen as an honor which is granted to the faithful people of St. Ignatius Orthodox Mission of Florida, New York for their sacrifice and love for God.” St. Ignatius is located at 75 North Main St. For directions or additional information call 845-651-0888.
