West Point Band presents its 2018 “Music Under The Stars” concert series at Trophy Point
WEST POINT — The West Point Band is proud to announce its “Music Under the Stars” 2018 summer concert series at West Point’s majestic Trophy Point Amphitheater.
Audiences are welcome to bring picnics, visit the beautiful and historic grounds of the United States Military Academy and enjoy scenic Hudson River views while The West Point Band performs a wide variety of world-class music. These concerts are free and open to the public.
On Saturday, June 9 at 7:30 p.m. the West Point Band’s Jazz Ensemble presents “Miles Ahead,” a performance exploring the expansive jazz canon of legendary jazz artist Miles Davis, featuring special guest Ira Coleman on bass, a former sideman of Miles Davis alumni Herbie Hancock and Tony Williams.
Join the West Point Band on Saturday, June 16 at 7:30 p.m. for its annual Army Birthday Celebration, commemorating 243 years of selfless service to the nation. The performance kicks off with a streamer ceremony and ends with a cake-cutting, in true birthday fashion.
On Saturday, June 23 at 7:30 p.m., The West Point Band will present “American Soundscapes.” Please join us as we welcome West Point Band alumni back to the stage for a wonderful evening of musical collaboration under the stars.
The West Point Band’s Benny Havens Band will present “West Point Block Party” on Saturday, June 30 at 7:30 p.m. Join West Point’s official party band for some carefree summer fun as they kick of the summer with their own A-list playlist, featuring classic rock and pop favorites to old school hip-hop and R&B.
On Tuesday, July 3 at 6:30 p.m. the West Point Band’s Benny Havens Band will perform for the City of White Plains Independence Day Celebration at the White Plains High School Athletic Fields located at 550 North St. in White Plains, New York. All are welcome at this family-friendly event that concludes with fireworks!
The West Point Independence Day Celebration will be presented on Saturday, July 7 at 7:30 p.m., with a rain date of July 8. There’s no better way to celebrate America’s independence than with the Army’s oldest band! Grab a blanket, bring a picnic, and enjoy a wide variety of music ranging from traditional field music to today’s popular hits, and everything in between. Guests are advised to arrive early, as this impressive celebration of music and fireworks is one of the best attended events of the year.
On Saturday, July 14 at 6:30 p.m. West Point Band’s Quintette 7 will present its annual Kids Night concert. Titled “Story Time with Quintette 7,” this performance brings your favorite children’s stories to life in a fun and interactive musical experience for the young and young at heart, complete with singing, dancing, and marching. Be sure to arrive at 6:00 p.m. for the instrument petting zoo, where your child can get up close and personal with the instruments of the band.
On Saturday, July 21 at 7:30 p.m., the West Point Band will present “Night at the Movies,” bringing you some of the best music composed for the silver screen. From the exciting and dramatic to lighthearted and comedic soundtracks, this program has something for everyone.
The West Point Band’s Benny Havens Band will present its popular “Dancing Under the Stars” on Saturday, August 4 at 7:30 p.m. Trophy Point becomes the Hudson Valley’s most scenic dance floor as the band invites you to the stage to Dougie, Mashed Potato, or Foxtrot to the best of swing, disco, Latin, country, funk, hip-hop, Motown, and more. Bring the whole family – or just that special someone – and spend a night dancing under the stars.
On Saturday, August 11 at 7:30 p.m. the West Point Band will present “Hello Dolly at 50.” In addition to the band’s usual entertaining summer fare, this concert will also showcase music honoring the 50th anniversary of the timeless movie classic “Hello, Dolly!” — scenes of which were actually filmed right at Trophy Point.
On Wednesday, August 15 at 6:30 p.m. the West Point Band’s Benny Havens Band will perform at the scenic Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park, New York as part of the Music in the Parks concert series. This evening of superb music features everything from classic rock and pop to old school hip-hop and R&B — and of course, patriotic favorites you know and love. In the event of inclement weather this concert will move to August 16 at the same time.
On Thursday, August 16 at 7:30 p.m., West Point Band will celebrate the veterans of the Long Island State Veterans Home and all of the men and women who serve with an exciting concert experience featuring a diverse mix of music and patriotic favorites. All are welcome at this outdoor family event!
The West Point Band’s Benny Havens Band will present “Red, White, and Country” on Saturday, August 18 at 7:30 p.m. This upbeat performance of country music with a patriotic twist will feature singles from The Benny Havens Band’s album “Songs that Save our Lives,” as well as popular songs from country artists such as Brad Paisley, Miranda Lambert, Garth Brooks, Little Big Town, and more.
The “Music Under the Stars” summer concert series will conclude with West Point’s famous Labor Day Celebration on Saturday, September 1 at 7:30 p.m., with a rain date of Sunday, September 2. This annual favorite features performances from the Concert Band, Hellcats, and Benny Havens Band, topped off with a performance of 1812 Overture with live cannon fire and a magnificent fireworks display.
Essential informationAll performances at West Point are rain or shine, and will move indoors if the weather is bad with the following exceptions: June 30 has no inclement site, and July 7 and September 1 concerts will move to the following day.
