Sugar Loaf - Three Red French Hens has become part of 18th Century Furniture in Sugar Loaf. Three Red French Hens is named for the French hens that are housed adjacent to the shop and add to the farmhouse ambience, according to shop officials. Officials said the name is also appropriate as French is the first language of French Canadian born shop owner, Manon Von Uchtrup, whose needlecraft work and artistry now graces the shelves. Visitors can expect to see handmade dolls, a wide array of aprons, carved wooden signs, hand printed note cards, decorative pillows and quilts, table linens, wooden ornaments, handmade bibs and baby items and woven baskets. “I have been crafting for years and got serious about sewing six years ago, so I’ve seen my hobby grow into a business,” Von Uchtrup said. “The pieces I create complement Peter’s (her husband’s) wood work, so when I started putting some of my items in the store, customers immediately began placing orders. What began as just a part-time passion, has blossomed into a full-time endeavor and now I am busier than ever.” Three French Hens is open Thursdays and Friday from 12 to 5 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. or by appointment.
