Quilt show in the sanctuary

— The sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church of Goshen, with its magnificent Tiffany windows, will make a fitting backdrop for the quilt show coming up Nov. 17.

The show is one of three holiday events happening Saturday at the church, located at 33 Park Place in Goshen.

Almost every pew in the sanctuary will display a quilt or a piece of handiwork. The quilts were made by parishioners and friends, with many local people putting their treasure in for the day. Handiwork from yesteryear will also be on display. In the past, the annual show has displayed quilts from the 1800s that looked like they did the day they were made. A quilt appraiser said was the best show she'd ever attended, because of the variety and the quality of work.

A donation or a canned item is requested, but not necessary, to view the show. All donations will go to the local food pantry.

The show will set up on Friday night, from 5 to 7 p.m.

"We encourage people to bring their cameras also, as the Deacons will have the sanctuary glorified with Christmas bunting hanging from the balcony," said an invitation from the church.

Baked goods, homemade soups, and hearty chili will be available for sale in the lobby of the church's Fellowship Hall, just off of Park Place in Goshen. The women's auxiliary will use the proceeds to benefit the church or congregation. Most of the baked items are on "real" plates and in baskets. Many people purchase their Thanksgiving desserts at this sale.

The popular Deacon's Craft Fair has been going on for more than 20 years at church.

Doors open at 9 a.m., and the events run until 4 p.m.
