SUGAR LOAF — The Workbench Artist Co-op, located at 1392A Kings Highway in Sugar Loaf, will welcome the holiday season with a creative and charitable event, “Portrait of a Holiday,” from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.on Saturday, Nov. 24.

The Work Bench is a small artist co-op dedicated to fostering the creation of inspired objects of art and craft. It offers hand-made, one-of-a-kind gifts by local artists.

As part of its “Portrait of a Holiday” event, the group will be collecting toys to benefit families affected by Hurricane Sandy. Anyone bringing a wrapped toy, labeled with an appropriate age and sex for the intended child, will be entered in a drawing to win a gift basket from the store. The basket will feature contributions from our talented artists. No purchase is necessary. The drawing will be at 5 p.m.; the winner need not be present.

Meanwhile, award-winning painter Janet Howard-Fatta will be painting small (5” x 5”) canvas portraits for $50. The portraits take about 45 minutes and make the most personal, creative gift possible for grandparents, parents or any loved one.

Booking a sitting time is recommended; call 845-469-2958).

The artists of The Workbench also will donate five percent of all proceeds during November and December to the Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy relief.
