'On the Lawn'

Lycian’s summer concert series lineup is in place Sugar Loaf The Lycian Centre for the Performing Arts’ seventh annual “On the Lawn” free summer concert series is in place, with a schedule of musical performances beginning Thursday, July 7 through Aug. 25. Concerts are on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the front lawn of the Lycian Centre and are free to the public. Concert goers are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, picnic baskets, family and friends. Refreshments will also be available on site. During inclement weather concerts will be moved indoors, at the discretion of the management. Lycian officials said thousands have enjoyed the variety of musical offerings over the past six years. 'On the Lawn’ performers
July 7: The Hot Rod Band, a regional favorite for 15 years. The four-piece band covers songs from the 50s to the 90s, with an expanding repertoire for audiences of all ages, July 14: E’lissa Jones with rock n’ roller Clarissa Cupero, who also has a Latin crossover flair.
July 21: The USMA Jazz Knights from West Point will perform big band favorites, original compositions and popular music and arrangements for jazz ensemble.
July 28: Still Surfin’, the Beach Boys tribute band. Still Surfin’ tours nationally and played the Lycian concert series in the summer of 2009. With authentic costuming and choreography, it’s a Beach Boys experience as close to the original as there possibly can be.
Aug. 4: Mark Gamsjager and The Lustre Kings on August, an Albany combo that combines spirit of the Rockabilly and Sun Studios era.
Aug. 11: The Greyhounds and Offshoots will perform 50s and 60s rock n’ roll, rockabilly and beat music. They are known for their frantic marathon performances. Offshoots describe their music style as “a rockin’ groove; exploring new frontiers while embracing the roots of rock n’ roll.”
Aug. 18: Annie & the Hedonists will perform a blend of acoustic blues, jazz, swing, old time and bluegrass. Led by Annie Rosen, Annie and the Hedonists go back to the roots of folk music and coffeehouse crooners.
Aug. 25: The series finale will rock with two bands, Nailed Shutt and Free Shrimp Band. Nailed Shutt is a classic rock, reggae, and jam band. Free Shrimp Band blends rock, country, blues and soul.
