Lecture: How plants evolved

MIDDLETOWN The lecture "Plant Evolution from Darwins Star Orchid to Poison Ivy" will be presented at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the Gilman Center for International Education library at the corner of South Street and East Conkling Avenue in Middletown.
Susan K. Pell will share her knowledge on the evolution of plants in PowerPoint slides. The lecture is free and open to the public, and registration is not required.
Pell is director of science at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and botany program coordinator in adult education and School of Professional Horticulture faculty member at the New York Botanical Garden. She is on the adjunct faculty at Pratt Institute and the College of Mount Saint Vincent. She travels worldwide to collect specimens for her research.
Two other lectures on other evolution topics are scheduled, one in March and one in April.
