journalist comes to Middletown

MIDDLETOWN-Prominent American journalist Mark Danner will deliver the lecture "On the Limits of Power: Terror, Iraq, and the American Dream" at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 12, in Harriman Hall, Room 111, at Orange County Community College in Middletown. Danner is an expert on international affairs and a longtime staff writer for The New Yorker. His articles have also appeared in Harper's Magazine, Aperture, The New York Times Magazine, The Times Book Review, and on The Times Op-Ed page. He has co-authored television documentaries for the ABC News Peter Jennings Reporting series: "While America Watched: The Bosnian Tragedy" and "House on Fire: America's Haitian Crisis." He has been a commentator on the MacNeil-Lehrer NewsHour and the Charlie Rose Show on PBS, CNN's Prime News, ABC's World News Now, and C-Span's Morning Show. His books include "The Massacre at El Mozote: A Parable of the Cold War"; "The Saddest Story: America, the Balkans and the Post-Cold War World"; "Beyond the Mountains: The Legacy of Duvalier"; "The Road to Illegitimacy: What Really Happened in the 2000 Florida Vote Re-Count"; and "Torture and Truth: America, Abu Ghraib, and the War on Terror." He is a professor of journalism at the University of California at Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism and is the Henry R. Luce Professor at Bard College. The lecture is free and open to the public. It is the second in the Lyceum Fall Lecture Series and is sponsored by Sara M. Morrison and the SUNY Orange Social and Behavioral Science Department.
