Vernon, N.J. - Haunted hayrides are now taking place at Heaven Hill Farms in nearby Vernon every Friday and Saturday evening in October from 7 to 10 p.m. The “horror-filled” hayride travels through “an abandoned village” hidden along the trails of Heaven Hill Farm through overgrown cornfields and woods. Organizers added “the evil and troubled ghost of a young girl leads the hayride into the eerie and gruesome undertakings of the unsettled menacing village dwellers.” The theme of Haunted Acres Hayride has been completely revamped for the season. “This year’s haunted hayride is really different from the ones in the past,” said Michael Paulison, the hayride’s creative director. “Instead of just creating various scenes based on popular movies and trends, I’ve tied it together within the setting of an old abandoned village. The common thread that drives the fear is the angry tormented spirit of a girl who once lived in the abandoned village. She’s out to torture the other villagers and to get whoever is in her way.” A daytime hayride takes place through Oct. 31 for those seeking a more milder experience.
