Goshen students win awards in Olympics of the Visual Arts

    On March 29, students from Goshen Central High School competed in the Annual New York State Art Teachers Association Olympics of the Visual Arts at the Saratoga Springs City Center in Saratoga Springs. More than 600 students and 150 teachers from 27 school districts throughout the state competed in the event. The students competed in six categories: painting, drawing, illustration, graphic design and fashion design. The students presented long-term projects they had worked on for two months, during class and after school. Under the direction of art teachers Marc Pizzo and Chris Tucci, four of Goshen's six teams won five awards, including two first-place awards, second and third place honors, and an award as "most artistic." Drawing (second place): Larissa Burak, Dan Deserto, Ashley Manning and Mike Matyus. Fashion Design (first place): Alex Baca, Katie Barry, Katie Bishof, Alyssa Foerster, Brittany Greener, Alex Janac. Graphic Design: Sue Roberts. Illustration (third place): Sheila Corrigan, Senada Mamaduski. Painting (first place and most artistic): Amy Anton, Claudia Canales, Kristine Dodge, and Natalie Gavalanes. Sculpture: Jenna Antonelli, Vanessa Foerster.
