Warwick - On Sunday, August 15, the Mid-Orange Correctional Facility in Warwick was the site of the fifth annual “Richard Jacob Rudy Memorial Car Show.” In 2006 Katie Rudy, with the support of her parents, Gary and Cathy Rudy of Pine Island, and friends, organized the “Richard Jacob Rudy Memorial Car Show.” The event was held in honor of her brother Richard who had died in an automobile accident a year earlier. And this was the way that she had decided to celebrate her brother’s life and love for cars. The car show, held that year at Warwick Municipal Airport, was a huge success and all proceeds from registration, donations, raffles and food sales were donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation along with a scholarship program for students pursuing a career in auto mechanics. At that time Katie Rudy stated, “I hope to keep the many memories of Richard very much alive.” The Richard Jacob Rudy Memorial Fund was established in 2008. And in keeping with its objective, the Memorial Fund will continue to donate proceeds from this year’s show to worthy charities including the Brian Ahearn Children’s Fund, Katelyn’s Kause, Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Hudson Valley and the Orange-Ulster BOCES Career and Technical Education (CTEC) Scholarship Program. This year the RJR Memorial Car Show also shared the fundraising event with the Katelyn’s Kause Annual Softball Tournament. Katelyn’s Kause was founded in memory of Katelyn Knebel, who passed away in 2004 from Ewing’s Sarcoma.
