WARWICK-Based on the enthusiasm demonstrated by everyone who came to hear Dick Wells and the Big Band Swing Machine last year, it is likely the crowd at the Village Green Park on Railroad Avenue will be even larger on Saturday, June 11. This event, the first in the summer concert series, begins at 6 p.m. and is expected to continue past 9 p.m. Admission is free and everyone is invited. The upcoming free summer concerts will be held at both the Village Green and Stanley-Deming Park. After last year's concert, Wells stated, "This was one of the best nights of my entire career." That's saying a lot for someone who once sang with the world famous Harry James orchestra and who appeared on the Johnny Carson Tonight Show. Wells also performed on Las Vegas stages with legendary entertainers like Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. The musicians in the Big Band Swing Machine, conducted by bandleader Harry Glogower, and their lead singer, Dick Wells, frequently appear together throughout the tri-state area. This year's event is expected to be a repeat of last year's huge "block party" with friends and neighbors, all in a festive mood, coming together to enjoy the music. Wells, however, said that with the exception of one or two old favorites, this year's program features a brand new selection of music and songs. Bring your lawn chair or make a reservation for outdoor seating at one of the nearby restaurants. Before the main performance, recording artist and DJ Joanne Church will return to warm up the crowd with a karaoke contest. Prizes will be awarded to the best singers. In the event of heavy rain, the concert will be held in the Warwick Reformed Church on Maple Ave. The summer concert series is sponsored by the Village of Warwick and contributing individuals and local businesses, which are mentioned in the printed programs.
