Wayne Chan announces his bid for re-election to BOE

I am seeking re-election to the Monroe-Woodbury Board of Education. I am a firm believer that all children can learn, but it is our responsibility to make available the necessary tools and access that will make them lifelong learners. I support both fiscal accountability and excellence in public education, which can only be achieved through school board leadership. During the next few weeks there will be people trying to cloud the issues. It is up to you, the voter, to separate the facts and vote. The worst thing you can do is let someone decide for you. During my three-year tenure on the Board of Education, I have been chairperson of the Visitation Committee. In addition, our district has implemented a zero-based-budgeting system which has saved our district and tax payers millions of dollars. For the past two years, our community has seen the lowest budget increases in more than 20 years. This year’s budget represents an overall budget to budget increase of less than 1 percent. The tax levy for this budget will be 2.8 percent, which is the lowest in memory and done in a year when Albany has reduced state aid to our district by several million dollars. I believe this year’s budget and the second proposition are reasonable and benefit our children and the community, and I encourage the tax payers of our district to support and vote for this year’s budget. I have been a resident and taxpayer of the Monroe-Woodbury School District for more than 20 years. I am proud to say that one of my three children is a graduate of the district and my other two children are still attending this excellent school system which provides them with the necessary background to go on to college and pursue their dreams. I myself received my bachelors of science degree in computer science from St. John’s University and I am presently a system programming consultant on large systems for one of the top five Global Automotive Manufacturers. I am confident that my history on the Board of Education and my professional experiences and education will allow me to successfully continue to execute my responsibilities as a member of the Monroe-Woodbury Board of Education and to persist in bringing the necessary change to the process which ensures our children’s future and that our tax dollars are used properly. I ask the Monroe-Woodbury School District voters to vote for me. I also ask you to trust my judgment and vote for my two other team mates, Jennifer Trumper and Eleni Carter, so that we can continue to provide the leadership to make our educational system superior and responsible. Sincerely yours, Wayne Chan Candidate for the Monroe-Woodbury School Board
